I have a htpc with tv tuner capture card. How do I record from the directtv dvr to the pc or dvd recorder?
The Direct tv is not the TIVO version. The home theater pc is connected to the direct tv dvr and the television. I have a dvd recorder that is not connected but I can connect it if neccessary. I wish to record something I have on direc tv dvr onto the PC or the dvd recorder. Any suggestions?

I think you mean you have media center PC, an actual home theater PC is quite expensive and in most instances needs to be built custom. If you have a capture device you can record using the copy to VCR function on the DVR if you have an already saved program by clicking the record button on the capture card software, it usually looks like any record button on a VCR. You do not need to use a DVDR to record unless you want to use the disks in another stand alone DVD player, otherwise you can just play from the computers hard disk. I also suggest that if you do this a lot to buy a second hard drive to store your media so that your system drive doesn't have to work to hard running yoru os and programs as well as playing your media files.
