not all usb ports on dvr boxes are for data transfer. some usb ports are for service (in case the box is defective, that's where they plug into to find the problem). others can be activated for a small price. once activated, you will most likely need an external hard drive to transfer the recordings onto. once on your external hard drive, you can save them into itunes, and then put them onto your ipod.
you can also get a coax-to-usb adapter (i use a pinnacle pctv adapter). this turns your computer into a television. connect a coaxial cable between your dvr OUTPUT, and plug it into your adapter. then the adapter into your computer. the adapter comes with it's own software, or you can use windows media center. basically, you press play on your dvr, and record on your computer at the same time. it will then transfer (in real time) onto your computer's hard drive. then you can send them to itunes, and then to your ipod.
