Not all DVRs support remote viewing. If yours does, it should have a RJ-45 network connector on the back of it that would plug into your DSL modem/switch just like any other network device.

You should also have received some remote viewing "client" software with the DVR. This software installs on the PC (or PCs) where you want to do the remote monitoring from. When you set-up this software, you put in the IP address of the DVR. When you launch the viewing software, it automatically connects to the DVR and allows you to view cameras as well as perform other system functions.

The manuals that came with your DVR should have explained all this. If nothing is mentioned, you may have a DVR that does NOT support remote viewing.

Yes, I use a PC to do the same thing.
Works flawlessly.
The only issue is getting you DVR to change the cannels if needed. Bu most digital TV receivers can be programmed to switch channels.

Best Buy has some that are compatible with the Mac, but they are highly more money then $400.
I think it's around $700 to $ 2000.
Circut City might have one not related to Mac but a smaller price.
eBay might have a larger variety for a range of prices.
Hope it helps.:)

No, Verizon however now has their Vios service which will allow you to have one DVR for the whole house and then watch different shows on from the DVR on different tv's.

The standard DVR will only record what is on the DVR and not anything else in the house. So it is possible to have more than one DVR per household

mmm, not much to go on, but i'll try.
I'm guessing there is a 'webcam server' setting in the menu that you already turned on, if not, well, i'll really need to know what system it is before I can say anything usefully then.
But assuming there is, and you already turned it on as described in the instructions the place where it usually goes wrong is either:
-ports in your router are not opened for traffic
-ports on your router are not set up to to rout you to the dvr
for both thing you need to check witch port is used by the dvr, then go to the config page of your router and check under 'virtual server' or 'address translation' and check if those ports are routed to the dvr.

for anything more concrete i nee more info about what goes wrong/what system/type of connection you want (web interface or a installed program)
